Full Unit-wise Syllabus
Unit I – Introduction To Chemical Processing
Operation sequence in chemical processing of cotton, silk, wool, rayon, polyester, polyamide, polyester and cellulosic blend materials with emphasis on the objectives of each operation
Unit II – Preparatory Processes
Introduction - Process sequence of wet processing for wovens and knits. Singeing electric and gas singeing. Desizing hydrolytic, oxidative and enzymatic. Scouring alkaline and enzymatic. Bleaching - hypochlorite, peroxide and sodium chlorite bleaching. Optical whitening. Mercerizing tension, tensionless and tubular mercerization. preparatory process for wool and silk.
Practical: 1. Acid/ enzymatic de-sizing of cotton fabrics and its evaluation. 2. Scouring of cotton fabrics, polyester/cotton blend and its evaluation. 3. Peroxide bleaching of cotton fabric and its evaluation. 4. Mercerization of cotton hank and its evaluation.
Unit III – Dyeing
Stages involved in dyeing process, principle of application of direct, reactive, vat, acid, disperse and natural dyes; principles of working of loose fibre, yarn and fabric processing machines.
Practical: 1. Dyeing of cotton material with different dyes – direct/ reactive/ vat and Sulphur. 2. Dyeing of polyester with disperse dye using HTHP machine. 3. Determination of colour fastness for textile materials (wash, light and rubbing ).
Unit IV – Printing
Styles of printing- direct, discharge, resist; ingredients of print paste; methods of printing; digital printing , garment printing,; special prints -flock, foam, foil, glitter, kadi, leather, pearl and rubber
Practical: 1. Develop designs with different techniques like tie-dye, clamp dyeing and shibori. 2. Printing of cotton fabric using screen and block printing technique. 3. Printing of cotton fabric using batik technique and stencils.
Unit V – Finishing
Printing methods and styles of printing; general constitution of printing paste, printing with pigments, principles of transfer and ink-jet printing, dyeing and printing faults, assessment of fastness properties of dyed and printed goods ; garment dyeing and washing; Finishing - Calendering, shrink proofing, antistatic finish, softening, water and flame proofing, UV protection, antimicrobial finish, resin finishing – crease recovery, wash and wear and durable press finishes; Standard methods of assessment of all the above finishes.
Practical: 1. Assessment of water repellent fabric 2. Assessment of flame retardant fabric
Unit VI – Computer Color Matching Concepts
Fundamentals of colour science, assessment of colour of dyed and printed goods; basics of colour matching technique; assessment of whiteness and yellowness indices and colour difference; pass/fail decision making; Eco friendly chemical processes, banned dyes and chemicals.
Practical: 1. Determination of whiteness and yellowness index 2. Determination of color parameters in fabric using spectrophotometer 3. Printing of cotton fabric using batik technique and stencils.
