Course Objectives

  • To educate students on the construction and operation of DC and AC machines, including generators, motors, and transformers.
  • This course also aims to impart knowledge of testing methods and performance analysis.

  • Open circuit and load characteristics of DC Generator (Shunt / Series / Compound)
  • Study of starters of DC motors
  • Speed control of DC motor
  • Load test on DC motor (Shunt / Series)
  • Swinburne’s test
  • Open circuit and short circuit test on single-phase transformer
  • Predetermination of regulation of three-phase alternator using EMF method.
  • Study of starters of three-phase induction motors
  • No-load and blocked rotor tests and predetermination of performance of three-phase induction motor
  • Load test on induction motor (Single Phase / Three Phase)
  • V-curves and inverted V-curves of synchronous motor

  • T1: Simulate a DC machine and compare the performance parameters with an analytical calculation.
  • T2: Simulator transformer and performance parameters with an analytical computation.
