Full Unit-wise Syllabus

Unit I – Air Pollution Fundamentals

Atmosphere as a sink, air quality standards (NAAQS, AQI), and regulatory framework in India. Sources and classification of pollutants, health and environmental impacts, and linkages with climate change and national programs.

Activities: Case study on air pollution episodes in Indian cities

Unit II – Sampling, Meteorology, Modelling

Sampling and measurement of particulate and gaseous pollutants, ambient and stack monitoring techniques – Online monitoring techniques- Meteorological influences, plume dispersion, wind patterns, inversions, and basics of air quality modelling.

Activities: Assignment on AQI interpretation, wind rose, and dispersion

Unit III – Particulate Pollution Control Technologies

Gravity separator, cyclone separator, filters, scrubbers, and electrostatic devices - cleaner production - policy measures.

Unit IV – Gaseous Pollution Control Technologies

Absorption, adsorption, incineration, biofiltration – SOx, NOx, COx pollutant control methods - policy measures - Emerging concepts like decarbonization and emission trading.

Activities: Poster presentation on air pollution control equipment used in industries

Unit V – Noise Pollution

Sources, measurement, and impacts of noise pollution with relevant standards - Noise control methods at source, path, receiver, and applications in occupational and environmental health.

Activities: Noise level survey and mitigation proposal
