Course Objectives
- To introduce the fundamentals of digital modelling and Building Information Modelling (BIM).
- To develop basic skills in 3D modelling, drafting, and digital visualization.
- To understand parametric modelling concepts and their application in design development.
- To enable the preparation of digital models, presentations, and documentation through computer-based workflows.
Full Unit-wise Syllabus
Unit I – Introduction to Digital Modelling and BIM
Overview of digital drafting, modelling, and BIM concepts. Difference between conventional drafting and information-based modelling workflows. Introduction to coordinate systems, modelling workspace, navigation tools, layers, and object organization. Understanding the role of digital modelling in design communication and documentation.
Unit II – Basic 3D and Parametric Modelling
Introduction to 3D modelling tools and commands. Creation of basic forms, surfaces, and geometric compositions. Editing and transformation techniques. Introduction to parametric modelling concepts and simple rule-based form generation. Modelling exercises involving spatial forms, furniture elements, and product components.
Unit III – Visualization and Documentation
Introduction to materials, textures, lighting, and rendering concepts. Basic visualization techniques for digital presentation. Preparation of drawings, layouts, annotations, schedules, and simple documentation methods. Understanding presentation workflows and portfolio preparation.
Unit IV – Applied Digital Design Studio
Development of a design project using digital modelling and BIM workflows. Exercises involving modelling, visualization, and documentation. Exploration of form, scale, spatial arrangement, and presentation techniques. Final digital presentation and portfolio submission.

Assessment Pattern (Quick Note)
- Weightage: Continuous Internal Assessment 50% | End Semester Examinations 50%
- Internal methodology: Two Assessments with equal weightage. One Assessment as Internal written Test/Examination (50%), second as Assignment (50%) of any mode such as study, seminar, and or a combination of modes, etc
