Course Objectives

  • • To equip students with practical skills in analysing biochemical constituents and physiological parameters, and interpreting results for health assessment and pharmaceutical relevance through hands-on laboratory techniques.

  • Section A – Biochemistry
  • Qualitative tests for carbohydrates
  • Qualitative tests for proteins and amino acids
  • Estimation of blood glucose (GOD-POD method)
  • Estimation of serum proteins (total protein and albumin)
  • Estimation of serum cholesterol and triglycerides
  • Preparation and pH measurement of buffers
  • Paper chromatography/TLC for amino acid separation
  • Enzyme activity assay (e.g., Salivary amylase on starch)
  • Enzyme Isolation / Enzyme Encapsulation Section B – Physiology
  • Measurement of blood pressure using sphygmomanometer
  • Recording of pulse rate and respiratory rate
  • Blood smear examination – RBC, WBC morphology, Total and Differential Count
  • Determination of hemoglobin content (Sahli’s method)
  • Estimation of bleeding time and clotting time
  • Blood group determination
  • Preparation of physiological solution: Ringers’ solution, Normal saline
