Course Objectives

  • To provide fundamental knowledge of environmental science and engineering, including ecosystems, resources, pollution, and sustainability.

Full Unit-wise Syllabus

Unit I – Environmental Ecology

Scope, multidisciplinary nature; Ecosystem structure and functions, energy flow, and nutrient cycles; Food chains, food webs, ecological pyramids, and biodiversity conservation; Role of engineers in environmental protection.

Activities: Poster Presentation on biodiversity conservation strategies in India.

Unit II – Resource Sustainability

Types of natural resources and their utilization - Water, forest, mineral, land, and energy resources with conservation methods - Sustainable development, circular economy, and climate change mitigation - Engineering solutions for resource sustainability.

Activities: Quiz on energy resources with conservation methods.

Unit III – Pollution Control

Sources, effects, and control of air, water, soil, and noise pollution. Basic wastewater treatment and solid waste management practices. Environmental impacts and remediation techniques.

Activities: Case studies relevant to Indian scenarios.

Unit IV – Environmental Management

Environmental laws, standards, and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) - Environmental ethics, disaster management, and social responsibility - Global issues such as climate change, ozone depletion, and acid rain - Sustainable infrastructure and the role of engineers in governance.

Activities: Seminar on environmental management
